A GIFT AFTERNOON
MISS A. MONTEFIOiRE HONOURED.
A gift afternoon was tendered to Miss Alice Montefiore yesterday in view of her approaching marriage. The function was arranged by Mesdames Teasdale, J. Oliphant and WJ. North and Miss P. North, and it was held at the home of Mrs North, in Carlton Street. There was a very large attendance, and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was spent in tennis, bridge and competitions. A very tasty afternoon tea was served. Mrs L. S. Chamberlain proved to be the winner at bridge, with Mrs A. H. Storey gaining the hidden number prize. At tennis there was very keen competition, but finality was not reached. A golf putting competition also proved very popular, and the eventual winner was Mrs B. Hague. Mi's Lyell Kay won a tree competition. During afternoon tea Miss Montefiore was called upon to open a most imposing array of parcels, and the display showed a lovely assortment of useful and ornamental articles, for which the guest of honour charmingly thanked the donors.
