4A SCHEME SUSPENDED

PRESENT CONTRACTS TO

STAND

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day.

The suspension of the 4a farm labour unemployment scheme* was announced yesterday by Mr W. Slaughter, officer controlling unemployment in the Auckland district. This is in keeping with the practice followed last year, when the scheme ceased at the beginning of the milking season. No new contracts under the scheme may be made, and no extension of existing contracts will be permitted. The suspension comes into effect at once but in the instructions sent out by the Unemployment Board from Wellington no mention is made of the probable term during which the scheme will remain inoperative. It is made clear, however, that this order will not affect existing contracts. These for the most part have been made for terms ranging up to six months, and many are on the point of expiry.
