Miss Phyllis Hall, of Takapuna, is spending a few days with Mr A. Rennie and family at Hairini. Next week she will visit the Chateau Tongariro.
Mr Martin Farrell, of Pirongia, died after a short illness, in the Waikato Hospital on Sunday. Mr Farrell had been a highly-esteemed resident of Pirongia for about 22 years, and was always notable for his cheery disposition. Much sympathy is extended to his widow in her loss.
The Right Rev. P. A. Bennett, Anglican Bishop of Aotearoa, who gave a very interesting address and lantern lecture in Te Awamutu last evening, is touring the diocese of Waikato. He will conduct a Maori service at Waahi pa, near Huntly, this afternoon, and will speak in Huntly in the evening. On Wednesday evening the Bishop will lecture at Cambridge.
A former well-knowft settler on Frontier Road, Mangapiko, until 25 years ago, in the person of Mrs Wallace Jones, died at Claudelands on Saturday. Mr N. E. Lee, of Te Awamutu, was called to Auckland during the week end owing to the death of his mother, Mrs Jane Lee who had not been in good health for some Fme, though her demise on Saturday came rather as a shock to members of her family.
A yery old resident of Te Kowhai, Mr Richard Trimble, died at Hamilton yesterday, aged 60 years. He came to New Zealand 46 years ago from Ireland and settled at Hamilton, carrying on veterinary work for several years. After 20 years at Huntly he moved to Te Kowhai. He is survived by a wife and family of seven, including Mr Reginald Trimble, of Te Awamutu.
Mr W. E. Lawson, clerk in charge of the Otorohanga office of the Waitomo Power Board, has been appointed as timekeeper and stores clerk to the Devonport Borough Council. Mr Lawson leaves to take u his new duties on Monday.
