LOCAL STOCK PRICES. SALE AT TE AWAMUTU. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company reports: At Te Awamutu on Thursday the entry of fat and store cattle comprised the usual number of fat cows, buc ox beef was shorter in supply. The tone of the market was similar to that experienced at this week's Frankton sale, although the definite improvement was not auite so marked. Store cows realised late valuations, while a good sale was effected for several pens of yearling heifers. Heavy mediumconditioned ox beef made £5 to £5 16s, lighter quality £4 10s to £5, prime fat cow and heifer beef £4 17s 6d to £5 12s, medium quality £4 to £4 15s, lighter ditto £3 5s to £4, light £2 to £3, stores 16s to £1 ss, boners 9s to 14s, best yearling heifers £2 to £2 13 sothers £1 8s to £2. The offering of dairy cattle exceeded 300 head, which number included the advertised herds and several odd lots of cows, the balance being heifers. A fair attendance of buyers competed for the entry, and although competition was hot so spirited as at our last sale reservations were comparatively few, and for anything showing well up prices ful.y on a par with late rates were maintained. Best-quality cows close to profit made £8 to £lO, good late calvers and fair sorts of early calvers £6 15s to £7 15s, more backward and poorer ditto £4 5s to £6 10s, others to £4, best dairy heifers (July calvers) £6 10s to £B, medium sorts £5 to £6 ss, poorer and later £3 10s to £4 15s, others to £3. A small entry of fat sheep changed hands under ruling rates; "medium wethers making 9s 6d, fat lambs 9s 6d to 10s 6d, poorer ditto 8s 6d to 9s. An appreciable advance in values was obtained for a large entry of store and weaner pigs under brisk competition; light porkers made 18s to £1 4s, large stores 14s to" 17s, smaller ditto 12s to 13s. weaners 9s to lis, others' 8s to 9s. " ST. CLARE " JERSEY SALE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company reports having held, in conjunction with Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., act : ng under instructions from the Public Trustee in the estate of the late Mr C. Parker, a complete dispersal sale of the " St. Clare" Jerseys and 50 grade cows. The large crowd of buyers which assembled on Both Friday and Saturday were principally from local districts, although several wellknown outside breeders were operating. Although the cattle were a little low in condition, they merited the spirited competition which ruled during the sale solely on their outstanding butter-fat backing and splend'd type. The offering comprised in all about 150 cattle, which number included 25 yearling bulls and 25 yearling heifers. The brisk bidding was maintained throughout the sale for all classes, and we consider the prices realised very satisfactory. The principal sales effected were: Cows: Riverdale Aster, 34 guineas, Mrs M. A. Rogers, Katikati; St. Clare Memory. 30 guineas, E. Hoffman; Hine Fox, 20h guineas, P. Balfour, Parawera; Twylish Damsel, 20 guineas, G. and R. Hutchison. Auckland; St. Clare Lucky Spot, 19 guineas J. Sing, Kio Kio; St. Clare Neat Victoress, 19 guineas J. H. Williams, Waharoa; Molly Maitland. 16 guineas, E. Hoffman. Katikati: St. Clare Pearl. 15 guineas, E. Hoffman; St. Clare Swan. 355 guineas. W. S. 'Smith, Kio Kio; Niobe's Neat Head. 15 guineas, A. E. Missen as agent. Other sales were effected for good cows from 8 to 14 guineas; poorer sorts made to 7 guineas. Heifers: St. Clare Ladyship, M. Murtagh, 10 garneas; Miss Mistake, 11 guineas, J. ff.
