REPORTED GOLD FIND

SHOTOVER RIVER CLAIM,

AREA OF RICH GROUND

(By Telegraph. Press Association.)

INVERCARGILL. Monday. An excentionally rich strke of gold is reported from the Shotover River. The truth of rumours that the strike is estimated to yield 50000 z.. or nearly £30.000, is neither confirmed nor denied by the syndicate, concerned, but no secret is made of the fact that the find is certain richly to reward the miners for their efforts over a period of vears.

The paddock in which the gold was found its situated a mile below the junction of the Shotover River and Moke Creek. Seven years ago an Invercargill syndicate took over £25,000 worth of gold from withm a few hundred yards of the same spot. Invercargill men will aerain benefit, for the interests are held locally in the Junction Hydraulic Elevating Syndicate the name by which the successful syndicate is known. The return from two cubic yards of wash was 17oz. and it is fairly certain that so long as the river remains at its present low level the c'aim can be successfully worked until the last ounce of the big deposit is recovered. Whether this 'ast ounce will brin/r the total to 5000 it is of course, impossible to predict. There seems every cause for believing that when the final returns of the syndicate are received they will xun into many thousands of pounds. *<... The Shotover River flows into the Kawarau.
