Evidence of the unusual season being experienced in Southland was mentioned to a News reporter on Saturday by Mr A. Batchelor, a farmed' at Rimu. On his property, said Mr Batchelor, strawberries had been in bloom in the open for some time. Furthermore, twenty-two violets, planted out last year, had been blooming pirolifically since the end of March, although they do not usually flower until about September. At the present time the flowers were so plentiful that a large bowlful could be picked at once, and many of the blooms were over an inch across.
