CUTTING EXPENSES

DANGER OF FALSE ECONOMY. The false economy of those British manufacturers and business proprietors who cut cut newspaper advertising as one of the first means of reducing their expenses during periods of trade depression was strongly condemned by Mr Selfridge at the second British Glass Convention at Brixton some time ago. “ These people do ont recognise,” he said, “ that advertising is a necessary element of expense in their business. In the., difficult times through which ,we are at present passing we must ‘ impress the public who are our customers that we are still in business at the old stand and doing business in the same way. «The great public is constantly changing all over the world. Since I came to London 24 years ago half the public has changed, and in another 24 years all will have changed. “I plead for publicity and the injtjelligent use of printer’s ink. There are many kinds of publicity, but perhaps the most used is the newspaper.”
