HEAVY BUTTER-FAT YIELD.
NGARUA’S RECORD FOR THREE • YEARS.
The Ngarua dairy farmers have, for the third season in succession gained the honour of being the group whose cows have returned the highest yield in the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-Testing Association’s area. The annual report of the association shows that for the last season the 812 cows tested at Ngarua gave an average return of 302.731 b. of butterfat per cow in 277 days. The association tested 95,832 cows, divided into 70 groups, and Ngarua was the only group with an average of over 3001 b. of butter-fat. During the 1929-30 season, the Ngarua group was first, when 1113 cows yielded • 318.421 b. fat in 281 days. In 1928-29 the group also headed the list, when 984 cows gave an average production of 304.711 b. of butter-fat in 276 days. For the three previous seasons, Manawaru, a neighbouring district was first, the figures being as follows: 1927-28 season, 1470 cows yielded an average of 289.011 b. fat in 267 days; 1926-27 season, 1581 cows, 317.831 b. fat .in 258 days; 192526 season, 1323 cows, 283.81 b. fat in 260 days. For the 1924-25 season Te Aroha group headed the list, 1327 cows producing. an average of 265.251 b. fat in 258 days. Ngarua, Manawatu, and Te Aroha groups are located within 10 miles of Te Aroha, and the success of the cows milked there testifies to the productive nature of the soil on the lowlying land situated between Te Aroha and Matamata.
