WOMEN’S DIVISION

N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION. The monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon last. The president, Mrs F. J. B. Ryburn, occupied the chair, and there was a very good attendance of members (well over sixty), and also several visitors. Mrs A. Hanna was unable to attend and Mrs Patterson once more looked after the books, distributing from the new parcel from headquarters. It was decided to send a number of magazines to a back district. Articles of used clothing were brought in by the members for use in this time of stress.

Mrs Ryburn then introduced Mrs English, president of the Ponsonby League of Mothers, who had kindly consented to address the meeting on the Passion Play at Oberammergau. The subject proved of more than ordinary interest and was keenly enjoyed by all present. Mrs . English has a most pleasing style, being thoroughly conversant with her subject and making the sacred play appear very real to her audience. The speaker was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. A short address was later given by_ Mr Taylor. JL*; Afternoon tea was served by tlw Ngaroto ladies, who amply provided for the large gathering.
