MILITARY TRAINING
NEW VOLUNTARY SCHEME.
(Bv Telegraph. Press Association.) < WELLINGTON, Monday. Satisfactory progress is being made in recruijting under the voluntary system of military training, according to a statement made by the Minister of Defence, Hon. J- &• Cobbe. The Minister said he did not desire the commands to hasten unduly any reCruitiE§. He much preferred that care should be exercised in selecting the best class of recruit rather than that efforts should be directed toward completing the establishments at the V T earliest possible moment. ' \ Mr Cobbe made available for publication the following figures, which •' illustrate the progress with recruit- - ing made to date:—Mounted Rifles, establishment 1620, recruits enlisted, 367; artillery, 2192, 757; engineers; 678, 149; signals, 291, 117; infantry, •3756, 1091; Army Service Corps, 309, 1'43; Medical Corps, 276, 127; totals, 9122, 2751. These figures do not include officers and bandsmen. The establishment of the Mounted Rifles'for the Northern is assured, but attestation is awaiting i ;; thetermination of the brigade camp.
