SCHOOL ATHLETICS
VALUABLE CUPS PRESENTED. As already announced, the Smith Fund Trustees have presented two cups for annual competition amongst the schools of this district, and it is believed these trophies will encourage the children of the schools to_ take a much keener interest in athletics. The competitions are open toi all schools which centre on Te Awamutu. The Te Awamuau Athletic Club has the administration of the competitions. It has been arranged that there shall be a points award for boys and for girls. For boys, the classes include 100 yards for under 15 years, 75 yards for under 12 years, and 50 yards for unde 9 years. For girls the grouping is 75 yards for under 15 years, 50 yards for under 12 years, and 50 yards for under 9 years. The conditions require that there shall be two competitors in each event from each primary school entering the competition. Points will count as 5 for first, 3 for second and 1 for third placings, and the school gaining the highest aggregate will hold the cup for twelve months and receive a miniature cup which becomes the property of the. school. The whole object of these competitions is to stimulate interest in athletics and to secure a higher degree of athletic training amongst the scholars at the schools.
