CROSSING COOK STRAIT

BARWELL'S JOURNEY IN CANVAS CANOE WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Charles Barwell set out to-night from Makara at 7.10 o'clock on his attempt to cross Cook Strait in a collapsible canvas canoe. There was a light north-weserly wind blowing, and the sea was calm. He expects the journey to take about 16 hours and to land, all being well, in the vicinity of the Three Brothers.
