SANDERS CUP WON
AVALON DEFEATS CLYDE.
AKAROA, Wednesday.
The Sanders Memorial Cup contest for 1929 was concluded here to-day, when Avalon won the sixth race. After being held for three years by Canterbury the cup will return to Auckland. The race was a close one between Avalon and the Wellington boat Clyde, both of which only required another win to secure the cup. Clyde hung on to Avalon all the way and there was never much more than a minute separating them. Avalon finally won by 38s after a splendid exhibition of sailing.
