WAITOMO CANDIDATES.
Mr W. J. Broadfoot. Mr W. J. Broadfoot, candidate for the newly-formed United Party, was born at Lower Hutt, Wellington, on 4th April, 1881. He is the son of Mr James Hope Broadfoot, a native of Scotland, who was postmaster at Lower Hutt. In his early days Mr Broadfoot joined the staff of the Observer, where he was engaged for 18 months. He then joined ths post office staff, and served in tihlat branch of the civil service for 18 months, resigning to study law. He commenced practice in Hamilton in partnership with Mr' P. H. Watts, and in the following year moved to T'ej Kuiti, where he has been in practice' ever since. Mr Broadfoot was deputy-Mayor of Te Kuiti from 1923 to 1925, and became Mayor last year on the retirement of Mr H. Rothery. Mr J. C. Rolleston. The Reform candidate, Mr J. C. Rolleston, is a native of Christchurch, and is the fifth son of the Hon. Win. RoMeston, Minister of Lands in the Atkinson-Hall Government from 1879 to 1884. He was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, and Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. After leaving college he was eng/aged in farming at Rangitata, Canterbury, till 1911, when he took up a block of land in the Rangitoto district, near Te Kuiti. He was absent from New Zealand as a trooper of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles from October, 1914, to March, 1917, and saw service on Gallipot. Mr Rolleston was successful in unseating Mr W. T. Jennings, Liberal candidate!, six years ago, and was reelected in 1925. Mr C. Croall. Mr Charles Croall, the official Labour candidate, is (little known at this end of the electorate-.
