ENJOYABLE FUNCTION AT TE KAWA. The Te Eajvva Cricket Club's exequtiva showed commendable enterprise by securing an aiTay of popular and very talented artists for a grand concert: at the Te Kawa Hall last Thursday evening, ajnd residents of their district showed their iappreciation by attending in large numbers. Every availably seat was occupied, and standing room at the back was at a premium!. It is pleasing to chroniclie that the result will be slome very acceptable funds for the Cricket Club. Mr W. M. Winter, wlh'o, by the way, seemed to be the leading figure in the executive, took the opportunity during the evening to express the club's deep appreciation of the assistance rendered by the contributors from Te Awamutu and Kihikihi to what had proved an exceptionally enjoyable doncert, and to the public for their patronage. Items, were rendered by the following: Miss L. Bray, recita, tions, "Simple Simon," "He Understood," and "The Proposal," three, exceptionally cllever items; Mr H. Armstrong, songs,- "The Bedouin Love Song," "Youlll Get Heaps of Lickin's," "Jcihnny Ludlow" and "Hills of Dreamland"; Mr D. Stallard, songs, "Sleep and the Roses," "Arise, 0 Sun," "The Blind Ploughman," and "I Heard You Go By"; Mr M. Barnett, comic monologues, "Shirts," "In Other Words," "Ginger, You're Barmy," and a yarn about a country yokel; Mr C. Corboy, songs, "Friend 0' Mine," "The Little Irish Girl," "Mountains of Mourne" (by request!) and "Fat little Fellow With his Mammy's Eyes"; Mr G. W. Osborne, violin selections, "Canzonette," Chopin's Nocturne, "The Cuckoo Dance" (by request), Dvorak's "Humoresque" and another selection. That all were enjoyed was evident by the vcjlume of applause. Mesdames Asht/on, Sjqholes and Osborne ably played the accompaniments. The finlal item of the programme was in the hands of Mr S. H. C. Winter, who gave a very interesting and entertaining exhibition of hypnotism, four local young men offering themselves as subjects. He was very convincing and successful with his demonstrations, and welil deserved the applJause that marked each section of the entertainment.
The hall was then cleared and after a tasty supper had been served by the ladies of the district, dancing was indulged in heartily until well past midnight, to voluntary, musdc.
