DAYLIGHT SAVING

That all farmers are not in accord in condemning the day/light saving innovation was indicated at the annual meeting of the Wjaipa Cricket Association on Friday evening, when the president (Mr C. J. Spiers), himself a well known farmer in the district, expressed his deep regret that daylight saving is not to be operative again this sumjmer. It was a fine thing for all forms of sport, and the farming comimunity had not given the innovation a fair run last season. Some had obstructed it as much as possible, condemning it and making its success awkwiard because they would, not try to adapt their working conditions. They ran their cream lorries and. factories according tjo the old time, and thus were continually at variance with other workers. There had been a lot of nonsense printed about the hardship imposed on farmers. Further, the Board of Education should never have allowed committees or tejachers to decide school hours. The innovation should havid' been universal. To say the ohijldren could not be got to go to bed before dark was an indication that the new generation has more "pep" .than their elders. If husbands, as was alleged, would not come home from recreation to tea the wives should have joined in enjoying recreation —and all would have been happy. (Hear, hear.)
