KING COUNTRY ITEMS. (Own Correspondent). , Oft Saturday last the athletic memb&Ys of Ot'orohangafs Friendly Societies visitted Te Kuiti for Rugby Entertainment on the .domain. The star item was the game, Combined Druids v. Oddfellows and Foresters resulting ina win for the Oddfellows by 14 to 12. Mjss Lexie Leathhni has been selected 'as the Till Hockey Club’s best all round player for the past season, and "becomes entitled to t’he handsome gold medal, presented by Mr M. Howley.

An enthusiastic and largely attended executive meeting of i|he United Political Party was held at Otorohanga on Saturday evening, with the object of forwarding the candidature of Mr W. J. Broadfoot at l!hc forthcoming elections. Mr A. Grey, the chairman .outlined the procedure of the executive and outside workers _to date. The business transacted at the recent conference of the Party at Wellington, was fully discussed and arrangements were finalised for an active canvass of this territory. Judging by this meeting it would seem that the United Party are out to capture Waitomo, and have matters well in train to bi'ing about this result.

Mrs James Turnbull, whd, with b er husband, has been associated in business in Otorohanga, for the past four years, returned from a six months’ visit to London, her home town, during the week-end. Although the .yield per unit. of this district’s dairy herds have not! yet been calcinated there are more cows in milk Row than at any former early October period. The yield of our average dairy cows will probably show a marked increase for the ensuing season. The Highways Board have placed on thei restimates a sum of £6OO (80s for 20s) for the maintenance of Ma.nia'poto Street. Otorohanga, which is a part of the Main Highway (Auckland to Wellington). A further sum of £8 (30s for 20s) is allowed for the upkeep of Mail* and Te Kanawa Streets.
