COUNTY VALUATIONS
WAIPA SHOWS APPRECIABLE DECKEASE. FIGURES FOR EACH <RrDIN». In preparing the estimates fop-tha current year the finance committee of the Waipa County Council had to base its computations on the valuations in each riding, and a)s there ■ have been adjustments in the valuation of lands in each riding since the previous estimates were prepared it was an. undertaking of no little magnitude. We have obtained from the county clerk (Mr T. Grant) figures bearing on the estimates, and therefrom we take Aba following European land valuations for the current year, as compared with those of a year ago. Some of the ridings show slight increases, otheife the reverse; while in one or two ridings the variation is considerable. They are:—
The total valuation of European land in the whole county is therefore £5,471,254 at present, as against £5,596,381 previously, a decrease of just over £125,000. It will be seen that in the ridings of Newcastle, Pukekura, Orakau, Kaipaki, Rangiaohia, and Tuhikaramea there has been a decrease, though in the case of Tuhikaramea 'the decrease is very small. Taken generally, there has been an increase in the areas j nearer the centres of population, particularly nearer Hamilton, while the decrease is more manifest in the ridings more remote from the centres.
