SHUNTING ACCIDENTS
THE PALMERSTON INQUIRY.
(By Telegraph. Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. The shunting inquiry was resumed .this morning. IMr Hildreth, a motor salesman, a friend of the late shunter Carmichael, said that on the morning of the accident to the latter he had been at the station posting a letter on the Limited express. He accompanied Carmichael to the hospital in the ambulance. Carmichael said his wife had been much afraid of an accident happening to him while he was at work owing to reports that he made to her about being pushed by the heads. Mr Carnachan (to witness): Do you know what Carmichael meant by "the heads”? Witness: No, , Mr Mack called evidence in rebuttal Oif allegations made in the evidence oi foreman Sweeney that several local employees had allegedly incited shunters to disregard orders. Eckersley and O'-Donnell and signalman Lucas gave a positive denial that they had told anyone not to obey his foreman.
