PRISONER ESCAPES
FROM MOUNT EDEN GAOL.
‘ BELIEVED TO BE MOTORING SOUTHWARDS. Information was received this morning fronj the Auckland police to the effect that three criminals, John Ernest Brasting, James Harold O’Brien and one Hansen, arrested recently in connection with a series of burglaries and safe robberies in and around Auckland, had effected their escape from Mt. Eden Gaol just after 10 o’clock last night. Hansen was subsequently re-arrested, but the other men are believed to have stolen a Ford car and are making southward. When they escaped Brasting (who, is about sft. 7in. and has two prominent front teeth) was wearing a black leather rainproof coat, with no collar or tie, and O’Brien (alias Williams) wore a pepper and salt suit, with no collar or tie. The local police are pn the lookout for the escapees. It is hoped that anyone in this district noticing an abandoned Ford car or any men believed to be Brasting or O'Brien will promptly communicate with the police.
