ANOTHER MAIN HIGHWAY

The chairman, No. 2 District Highways Council, advised the Waipa County Council at Monday's meeting that the Main Highways Board had approved the declaration of the Te Awa-mutu-Pirongia road as a main highway.

Cr Alexander complimented the chairman on securing the Highway Board's acceptance of the road. Had it not been for Mr Reid's persistence and recognised fair dealing there must have been difficulties. The Highways Board control would relieve the Council of a considerable anxiety in respect to this much-used and abused road.

Cr Macky concurred, saying that the upkeep of the road was quite beyond the resources of the Mahgapiko riding, which had so many other roads to maintain. He was confident the Highways Board's decision was a wise ono.
