Half the cost of this work has been charged equally between the Waipa and Kawhia Counties, as decided by the Minister for Public Works. The OkapatuPekanui road is now being thoroughly repaired out of funds provided by the Public Works Department. Grader work is also being undertaken on various roads in this Riding including the Ngutunui and Pirongia-Kawhia roads. Proposals will shortly be prepared for expending the grant of £3OO for metalling portion of the PirongiaKawhia road near Te Rau-a-Moa and forwarded to the Highways Council for approval. On the Mangaorongo to Kawa road Mr Anderson has completed the metalling of Benseman’s flat, a distance of 18i chains. The remainder of his contract on this road, a distance of 25 chains, will be undertaken very shortly. In anticipation of the grant of £SO on the Public Works Estimates for Gallagher’s Road, I have ordered the necessary timber for a large culvert which is required, and will proceed with the work at an early date. Grader work is being carried out on various roads in this Riding. MANRAORONGO RIDING.

Tenders are invited for metalling a distance of 2£ miles approximately on ! the Paewhenua road.

Grader work has been carried out on various roads in this Riding. A number of deck planks on the Mangaorongo bridge on the OtorohangaKihikihi road have broken under recent traffic and it has been found necessary to re-deck the whole structure. Timber for this work has been ordered. In the meantime, temporary repairs have been effected. WAIPA RIDING.

Mr Hall has started his metalling contract on the Tahaia S.S. road and is making a very fair job of it. Grader work has been carried out on the Puketawai road. It was intended to put the grader on other roads in this Riding before shifting, but owing to more urgent work in the Te Rau-a-Moa Riding, which could no longer be delayed, work on these roads is held over for the present.
