DAYLIGHT SAYING
• ■ a suggestion came before the last meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council from the town clerk that the office hours be altered s,o that the office would open and close half an hour earlier each day.
Cr McMahon thought, that if this modified form of daylight saving was to he permitted with one branch of the Council’s staff the privilege should be extended to all their exployees. It was stated that some' of the workmen now started at 7.30, and they would object to starting earlier than that.
Cr Ada Gordon: If they had ito start work at 7 o’clock what time would it be necessary to get up in the morning to prepare breakfast. “Look at the matter,” she said, “from a housewife’s point of view.” The Mayor said it would be time enough to bring in the other workers when they expressed a desire to commence work at an earlier hour themselves. The Council acceded to the wish of the clerical staff.
