CLOCK OF DEATH
By the stopping of the famous astronomical clock of Henry VIII, at Hampton Court Palace, and the death within a few hours of one of the palace inmates, fan ancient legend surrounding the 'Clock of Death' has once more been fulfilled. Tradition runs, says the Daily Mail, that the stopping of the clock portends the imminent death of a palace resident. For the first time for hiany years the clock stopped last month, and a few hours later an elderly woman, Miss Jane Cuppage, daughter of General Sir Burke Cuppage, who fought at Waterloo, was found dead in her apartments. Next morning the clock was started again and no cause for the stoppage could tie discovered. Made in 1500, the clock registers the hour of the day, day of the month, position of the sun, number of days since the beginning of the year, and high water mark at London Bridge.
