COUNCILLOR’S CONVICTION.

STRANGE BOROUGH VACANCY. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) HASTINGS, Friday. Councillor L. W. Fowler, convicted last Wednesday of obstructing a police constable in the discharge of his duty, and fined £5, attended last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, but the Mayor called on him to retire, as, having been convicted of an offence punishable by fine or imprisonment, his seat had become vacant automatically. Mr Fowler retired and an extraordinary election will be held in due course.
