FIRE AT PAEROA.

BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. PAEROA, Monday. A disastrous fire occurred shortly after two this morning, the Montrose boardinghouse, consisting £f 23 rooms, being completely gutted. The Fire Brigade was quickly on the scene and the members worked valiantly, but they were hampered in their efforts, as a fresh north easterly wind was Mowing. The building was old and wooden. It was owned by Mr Asher Cassrells,. of Paeroa, occupied by Mrs Annie Davidson, and used as a boardinghouse. The boarders were all aroused in time, and got out of the building safely in scant attire. Practically nothing was saved. The insurance on the building was £BOO in the New Zealand Insurance Office. Mrs Davidson had £450 on the furniture and effects in the same office. The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen, and the cause is thought to have been a defective chimney near the hot water system.
