ENGINEER'S INSPECTION.

WATPA COUNTY OFFICIAL VERY BUSY. To visit each riding at least one day in each month was the desire of Waipa County Councillors expressed to its engineer at Monday's meeting. Cr Peacock said he did not like harping on a subject that had been debated on previous occasions, but he felt that the engineer was not often enough in his (the speaker's) riding. He knew Mr Civil had very many calls on his time, but the ratepayers were pressing. He moved that each riding have the engineer for at least one day per month. Cr Reilly seconded.—Carried. The engineer said he was so fully occupied with the preparation of plans and specifications for works to be put in hand, with the applications for'Public Works grants and subsidies, and with special rating area. There were ten ridings, and attendance at each would occupy ten days in each month. However, he would do his best to visit each riding more.

Cr Peacocke said he did not blame Mr Civil. He took it that the engineer would confer with the riding member as to which day he should come. Some ridings could do without him while everything was going along smoothly, but it was time work in each riding was planned out for the coming summer months.
