ENTERTAINMENTS.

“SHELTERED DAUGHTERS’.’ Gorgeous gowns from the skilled hands of Parisian costumiers displayed ,by a dozen mannequins are an important feature in “ Sheltered Daughters,” ,tke Realart production, with Justine Johnstone, which will be presented at the Empire on Saturday. The gowns, summer and autumn models, are. described as the very latest word in fashionable feminine attire. A special set was constructed to represent the establishment of a Fifth Avenue modiste, where much of the important, action of the picture takes place. Tt. is in this smart setting that the heroine, played by Miss Johnstone, is transformed, from an unattractive and poorly-clad girl to a. beautiful young woman, stylish and captivating. Such a display of fashionable garments as this has seldom been presented in pictures. ' “THE FAMOUS DIGGERS.” ' “Miles ahead of their other performance” has been the unanimous verdict of the audiences to whom the Diggers have already presented their new revue. “Tip-Tip.” The capable judgment of the management, the result of four years’ theatrical enterprise in New Zealand, enables them to produce a show which proves a 100 per cent satisfaction to the theatre-going public, and in that respect the new revue has “hit the nail on the head.” No expense has been spared in the gathering of good items, dressing, and scenery required for the new production. an,d it is a fitting monument of the Diggers’ faith in their never-fail-ing patronage that they can embark such an expensive show on the lengthy and extensive tour of the Dominion, the like of which has never been attempted by other travelling shows of its kind. In the capable hands of Joe Yalii. Frank .Moran. Gus Dawson, and Tano Fama the comedy of the revue attains the axiom of mirth-provoking humour, clever satires, hilarious absurdities. and uproarious surprises being crammed into the comedy portions of the show, and never has such a variety of humorous efforts, light and heavy, burlesque and farcical, been offered by this able combination. Gus Dawson is responsible for some very excellent dancing features in the Revue, particularly a novel acrobatic dance with Diana Tabor entitled “ Nottvelle Melange." and a clever execution in the “A 1 abam ” duet with winsome Eily Dalgleish. The latter is as dainty ami appealing as ever in her own offerings, a success being “ Apple Blossom Time.” a delightfully dressed feature in which she is ably assisted ■by the “ Superb Six.” This talented little bunch of beauties is seen to advantage in various numbers throughout the show. “ The Awakening of the Flowers ” being a refreshing repast for the eyes, while the “ Moonlight ” is a feature which for novelty would he hard to beat. The Diggers appear at (he Empire on Friday evening next.
