VALUATION AND LAND.
HAMILTON O FF i CE S WA N TED . On Tuesday Mr J, A. Young, M.P., urged the Prime Minister to establish a branch office of the Valuation Department in Hamilton. He referred to the serious inconvenience and loss entailed by having to deal with Wellington through Auckland, more particularly by applicants for State advances. The local bodies complained of delay in amendments to the rate roll and it had been reported recently that in one district where considerable subdivision of property bad gone on numerous people bad escaped local rating. Mr Young emphasised that the time bad arrived for the establishment of a local office to deal direct with the Department at Wellington. Another important matter stressed was that the head office of the Auckland land district, with the Board, should lie located at Hamilton. In replying to the request Mr Massey said that lie could not definitely decide the matter, which he would discuss with the Valuer Gent nil. and if there was a way out he would not object to the desire being effected.
