NOT GUILTY.
VERDICT IN MANSLAUGHTER CASE. WELLINGTON, This Day. Thomas Francis Bailey was charged with manslaia',-liter at the Supreme Court in consequence >f the death of a boy named Herbert Reginald Johnston, arising out of a fatal accident at Karori. it was contended by the Crown that accused had acted in a negligent manner. About 5.30 on the day of the accident accused was driving his motor car towards Karori and in order to avoid a tramcar lie swerved on to the footpath, thereby striking and killing the lad. Accused, in evidence, said that, in order to avoid some men lie had gone round the offside of the tramcar. ati'l in order to avoid tt collision with another tramcar coining in the opposite direction he accelerated and made straight for t.he footpath. He thought lie was going into a fence, but the impact with the kerb threw the car to the left. Afer evidence W" 1 been given the hirv returned a verdict of not guilty.
