OTOROHANGA NOTES.

(Resident Representative.) Town Band. The dance and euchre social last night in aid of the Town Band’s building fund, though arranged for at short notice, was a success from all points of view. The floor was good, as was the orchestra, and .the Band excelled itself. Bandmaster Heald and his bandsmen are to be congratulated on the very marked progress they hove made ever since their 'first public appearance a few weeks ago. A dainty supper, provided' by a committee of ladies (Mesdames Pickford, McCready, and Moon), was of course a feature of the evening. The euchre tournament was won by Mrs Falconer (ladies) and Master M. Falconer (men) and prizes awarded accordingly, the latter’s being a shaving toilet set. The fund will probably benefit to the extent of £8 at least. Sawmill closes Down. The Waitomo Valley Sawmill Com pany has closed down for the time being, the matter of heavy traffic on the county road being .the main reason for this cessation of work. Comity Defaulters. It may interest County ratepayers to be remined that defaulters in payment of rates are ineligible to be nominated as candidates for county honours. nor are defaulters eligible to be nominators of candidates. - Heavy Ruin. The very heavy rain of Sunday night caused the township to he unpleasantly covered with water. However, owing to its natural drainage, the town was quite normal in appearance by midday. The river did no.t show any Sign of flooding, though that may occur if the rainfall was anything like sb heavy in the back-blocks as it was here. ■
