RECENT SALE VALUES
At Hamilton on Tuesday sheep and pigs were again in good supply, when the Farmers' Auctioneering Company held its usual sale, but the entry of cattle was smaller. Little alteration in values was noticeable in comparison with the previous week's prices. Competition seemed, however, somewhat steadier, resulting in a complete clearance. Beef improved slightly, steers selling from £6 5s to £7 '2s for the heaviest; lighter and unfinished £5 10s to £5 17s 6d. Cows made to £5 8s; lighter weights £3 10s to £4 7s 6d. The advertised line of 3£-year forward steers sold under fair competition to £4 8s for the best; others from £4 4s. Very few store and young cattle were penned;' 18-month steers, fair quality, made to, 345; heifers of same age but small, 355. There was very little inquiry for calves. Fat wethers made from 16s to 17s 4d; unfinished 13s 9d to 15s; ewes from 13s to 14s; forward lambs drew fair competition, reaching lis lid for the 'best; smaller from 10s 6d; store lambs from 7s 3d to 8s 6d. Breeding ewes were sti'll the subject of inquiry up to a certain value, lis being the highest figure registered; others from 9s 6d; cull ewes 6s 3d. Pigs were penned in full supply; baconers maintained last week's rates, making up to £4 for heavy weights; light baconers £2 15s to £3 ss; porkers were somewhat easier, making from 32s 6d to £2 10s; store pigs :27s to 365; slips and young pigs were in good demand, the former realising from 17s 6d to £1 'ss; weaners 6s to 15s. On the same day at Hamilton the Loan and Mercantile Agency Sompany had again a heavy yarding of sheep. No good-quality mutton was penned, and prices for fats were almost similar to those of last week- Store wethers were hetter value, and lambs sold fairly well, but few 'breeding ewes were required. There was not much animation in either the fat or the store cattle market, but the majority of a medium yarding changed hands. Fat and forward lambs made lis 4d to 15s 3d, f.m. ewes 7s 9d to 9s 6d, cull ewes 5s 6d, fat cows £3 8s to £4 10s, 18-month steers £1 17s 6d to £2 ss, 15-month heifers £1 17s, weaner heifers £1 to £1 ss, store cows £1 to £ll4s, according to condition. There was fair competition for fat pigs. Prime baconers realised from £3 5s to £3 17s, light baconers £2 10s to £3, good porkers to light baconers £2 5s to £2 lis, porkers 35s to 425; slips and store pigs were in good demand, and sold up to 355, good slips 20s to 255, smaller slips 14s to 18s, good weaners 15s, small weaners 3s to 8s 6d. There was a small yarding of dairy cows; good heifers made to £l2, good cows to £lO 15s.
