PIRONGIA ABSENTEE ACRES
MINISTER INTERVIEWED. While in Wellington, Mr A. E. Fear, organiser of the Dairy Farmers' Union, interviewed the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, regarding legislation being passed this session for the sale of Pirongia absentee acres. The measure will be brought down as a clause in the Washing-up Bill next week. The Pirongia Chamber of Commerce has been endeavouring to release for sale the 250 to 300 acres, old soldiers' settlement, allotments. The present law debars their sale for rates, and thus the chamber brought the matter under the Government's notice for the passing of special legislation. The land is first class dairying land on the Waipa river flats, at present in a neglected state, and will make excellent small dairy farms. Besides affording opportunities for settlement, the sale of these acres will solve many irritating difficulties experienced over a long period ot years by the local bodies concerned. The Chamber is to be congratulated on having gained its point.
