The new Counties' Bill was read in the House for the first time on Tuesday, and was referred to the Local Bills Committee. The delegates' from Otorohanga may be called down to Wellington at any moment, and so it behoves all who have promised subscriptions towards their expenses to pay some at once. Mr J. Thorne, who has been postmaster here for the past three years, left with Mrs Thorne last evening for Waipawa, where he has been appointed. In the meantime Mr Palmer is r lieving postmaster here, pending y the arrival of Mr Nixon, of Ponsonby, who has been "appointed Mr Thorne'si successor. Dr. Nicholson has gone on a wellearned holiday, and will be away for a month. In the meantime Dr Bathgate, of Dunedin, is acting as his locum tenens. Master Frank Hamlyn Worsfold, ot Maihiihi, isl one of the successful junior scholarship winners. Some time ago the Town Board obtained poles from the Te Awamutu Power Board for the purpose of extending the lighting service to the town hall. The Under Secretary of the Public Works Department has now written saying that the department had no objection to the proposed extension, and that probably foreman Lemon would be instructed to do the wiring, etc. The report of the expert electrical engineers' on the suggested Marakopa electric power scheme, was before theTown Board at its last meeting, but at the request of the chairman it was not supposed to have been published until discussed by the Te Kuiti Borough Council. Since the meeting the chairman (Mr Phillips!) expressed regret that he could not let us have it for publication before Te Kuiti Borough Council had discussed it. However, though it has not let been discussed by the Te Kuiti Council it has been published.
