A hope was expressed by the chief inspector that in view (of the information given that the Board would re-consider its decision m t to undertake the administration of the Act.—-After consideration of Tie proposal in all its bearings the Board did not see its way to accept responsibility of carrying out the regulations, and directed the clerk to write to the chief inspector,to that effect. .

A letter was received from the aud-itor-general forwarding, the Board’s annual balance-sheet, certified as correct. —The chairman said the clerk was to be congratulated that the accounts submitted had been satisfactorily kept, and that the report by the auditor was free from any tags. Complaint was made by settlers of the unsatisfactory state of the Mill Road as left by the contractor. It whs .stated in a petition presented to the Board that the road was impassable for a loaded vehicle, and it was suggested that a right-of-way be extended through Mr, A. Karl’s property.—As the matter was urgent in view of the approaching dairy season, the chairman said he had arranged with Mr Karl for a right-of-way through his property on certain terms and conditions. —The action of the chairman was approved.
It was decided that in future meetings of the Board will commence at 8 p.m., and not at 7.30 p.m., as hitherto.
The chairman announced that as a result of the social committee’s efforts the amount of the town hall deposit had been received. —Mr Gillett said that went to show what couldMe done by organising. The way in which the committee had worked during the past few months was commendable, and all it had done was thoroughly appreciated by the Board as representing the public. He understood that the committee’s efforts were not being relaxed, and that further entertainments were being arranged to augment the fund, which will materially advance the town hal'l scheme. The outlook was promising, and was to he encouraged, as the object was a laudable one.
