A RAILWAY MISHAP.
TRAINS HELD UP.
SICK ENGINE AT TE AWAMUTU
A crippled locomotive from Te Kuiti broke down yesterday afternoon at the points at the north end of Te Awamutu station yard, and trains proceeding north and south were considerably delayed, including the express to Wellington. It appears that the engine lost one of its front bogie wheels and broke an axle in the vicinity of Puketutu yesterday, and was being brought to Frankton for repairs, when it came to grief as stated, with the result that the express which leaves Auckland at 1 p.m. and passes through Te Awamiitu at 4.30 p.m. was stopped at the signal at the north end of the station by the obstruction. After considerable delay the express was taken back to Ohaupo, and did not leave there till the line was cleared at 8 p.m. The other trains affected were the 4 5 p.m. train from Frankton -and the train from Te Kuiti, the latter timed to leave here at 7.33*;p.m. A special train 'conveyed a breakdown gang from Frankton to effect such repairs as would allow of the disabled engine proceeding to its destination.
