THE DOMAIN BOARD.

TSE OF GROUNDS FOR SHOW. PROPOSED SWIMMING BATHS. A meeting of the Te Awamutu Domain Board was held last night, the Mayor, (Mr L. G. Armstrong), presiding. All of the members were present. The ex-secretary of the Domain Queen Carnival forwarded letters from Miss Innes Jones and Miss M. Collins, thanking the executive for the donations to the Queen candidates. Both expressed pleasure that their services had been appreciated and that the effort had been .such a success. The secretary of the Te Awamutu A. and P. Association wrote offering £SO per annum for the use of the grounds subject to conditions already published. The Mayor said members of the Board and of the Association had inspected the grounds when the show requirements were explained. No doubt other sports bodies would have claims to represent and the Board had to seek a cohesive scheme. Mr Clark introduced a deputation consisting of Messrs. C. F. Battson, Spenceley Walker and P. S. Pawcett who represented a committee which had been delegated to consider the provision of swimming baths. They had conferred with a builder, but the cost of concrete baths was prohibitive.

Mr Walker explained that a very suitable site for almost naturally formed baths had been located at the far end of the domain. With a nominal expenditure a temporary yet satisfactory swimming pool could be provided. Small dressing sheds would be required although there was a certain amount of natural shelter provided by a clump of trees. It would also be necessary to provide access along the river bank, and a certain amount of blackberry would have to be grubbed out. He emphasised the need of facilities for swimming, particularly for the children and as only a small expenditure was necessary the hope was expressed that the Board would accede to their request. The facilities would be available for the public as well as for the children. The Mayor pointed out that the Board had to await the completion of the present work of levelling and - regressing before the available money could be ascertained. The Board had to hear other applications and endeavour to cater for all branches of sport and recreation, as for as possible. An inspection would be made in due course and the committee would be asked to inspect in conjunction with the Board members. Reverting to the A. and P. Association's application, the Mayor said the show enthusiasts were very agreeably surprised when-they saw the area offering and the nature of the grounds. It was decided to defer consideration pending a co-ordinated scheme of works being agreed on. The Mayor added that it had been suggested to plant a hedge along the Park Road frontage.
