CONSUMPTIVE SOLDIERS.
THE CLOSING OF TE WAIKATO.
RESOLUTION BY TE AWAMUTU SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION. In reference to the closing of the Te Waikato Sanatorium, near Cambridge, at the special meeting of returned soldiers in Te Awamutu last evening, the following resolution was carried:— “ That this meeting of the Te Awamutu Returned Soldiers’ Association enter an emphatic protest against the closing of the Te Waikato Tubercular Sanatorium at Cambridge, and in view of the ideal situation, the amount of money expended to perfect it, and the definite results attained by its unique situation, this meeting is definitely of the opinion that the institution should be kept in full working order in view of the present increase of the dread disease amongst returned soldiers and civilians alike.” Mr Mcßurney said that over four thousand soldiers in New Zealand had tuberculosis, and the Government did not seem very active in the matter of attending to these men. The men should get fair treatment. Mr Walker said the question of the tubercular cases should certainly occupy the ‘attention of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
