POWER LOAN CARRIED.

A UNANIMOUS VOTE.

LOAN OF £120,000 SANCTIONED,

The proposal of the Te -Awamutu Electric Power Board to raise a loan of £120.000 for the electric reticulation of this district, which was determined at the ratepayers’ poll yesterday, occupies a somewhat unique position amongst local bodies’ loan proposals in that no votes were recorded against it. Seldom, if ever, has a proposal involving so large a sum received unanimous approval of the people, and this may be taken as a certain evidence of the desire in this district to bring about a condition of progress. Te Awamutu, which first moved in the direction of establishing a Power Board, has maintained enthusiasm in the determination of the financial issues surrounding the contemplated undertaking. A feature of the poll was the smallness of the vote. There were 1293 eligible voters, but only about twentyfive per cent of these recorded their votes. At one polling place no votes were registered; at Hairini there were only four; each of the Te Kawa polling booths registered five, and at Paterangi eleven ratepayers voted. There are yet four small returns to come in from outlying districts.

The complete returns show that barely 400 votes will have been recorded.

The poll was ably conducted by Mr D. T. B. McArthur (returning officer) and his deputies throughout the district.
