Mr Tina Sasaki, of Japan, has recently been visiting Australia for the purpose of purchasing stud sheep for the Japanese Government. Mr Sasaki said that Japan was purchasing the sheep with a view to raising flocks. Japan had only between 4000 and 5000 sheep of mixed breeds, mostly Shropshires, with a few merinos. For some time Japan had been importing rams from England. It was the intention of the Japanese Government to experiment with sheep purchased from Australia and New Zealand. Since Australia prohibited the export of wool to Japan and other countries outside the British Empire they had to buy from South Africa and South America. If the Government would allow Australian wool to be sold to Japan that country would buy much more from Australia than Australia would import from Japan.
