PIRONGIA NOTES.

A very representative gathering of the Women’s branch of the Red Cross League was held on Thursday afternoon in the Pirongia library, Miss Aubin presiding. Mrs Steel read the statement of accoutns, which was most satisfactory. Subscriptions and donations amounted to £33 7s 2d, expenditure £27 6s Id, leaving a balance of £6 Is Id. A parcel containing six suits of pyjamas, six shirts, and six pairs of socks was sent to the head office of the League in Auckland, ready for forwarding to the front. All those who have unfinished garments are requested to finish and send in to Mrs Steel at their earliest convenience in readiness for the next parcel, which we hope to send in about three weeks’ time. Last month the branch forwarded the autograph quilt and a cheque for twenty guineas, so altogether this little district has made a very noble effort as its share in the great contest.
