WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY REPORT. The following report of the county supervisor (Mr W. H. Mandeno) has been submitted to the meeting of the Waipa County Cocncil at Ohaupo to-day : Since the last monthly meeting of the Council a considerable amount of earthwork has been done on various roads, both by our own machines and by contract. The Graders. —The No. I grader was engaged up to the Ilth of last month in reforming what is known as Grand Vue Road, near Frankton. Since then it has been at work grading hills on the Hamilton - Tuhikaramea road, and will be kept there for some time longer yet. The No. 2 machine has been at work during the whole month on the road between Paterangi and Te Rore. This road has never been properly graded, and the work required is fairly heavy ; it will take at least another two weeks to complete. Ohaupo-Paterangi Road.—There were two low-lying places on this road, which have long required attention, and as the Rangiaohia Road Board machine was working in the vicinity, and available, I arranged for the work to be done, but in order that it may be made a complete job it should now be metalled.

Contracts—No.7ol, grading on the Hamilton-Tuhikarameaßoad, is making good progress, and will be finished within contract time. No. 702, grading on the Frontier Road, is satisfactorily completed and is a very cheap job. No. 703 grading on Old Mill Road, Paterangi, is making good progress. Walker’s Gully.—The work is

approaching completion, and the new road 'should be open for traffic before Christmas. Grant and Loan Monies. —I have prepared specifications, etc., for the expenditure of a number of these grants for submission to the Public Works Department, and have called tenders (due for to-day’s meeting) for the carting of upwards of 3000 yards of metal from different stations.

The question of metal supply is one requiring some consideration as once the holidays are over, we should be in a position to get the metal along quickly, otherwise we shall again find ourselves too late in the season with our work. I have communicated with Wilson’s manager at Te Kuiti, and I received a wire from Mr Wilson yesterday saying he was writing by the night express. The matter being urgent, I think it would be well to appoint a small committee with power to act, and is necessary interview the manager in Auckland.
