NEW PICTURE THEATRE.

TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —Allow me brief space to acknowledge Mr Christie's letter. It is hardly necessary to point out that Mr Christie's letter is no reply to my letter, but a cry of despair, because every business man in Te Awamutu does not see eye to eyei with him in his venture for the successful flotation of that which will be of material benefit to him. It is a source of satisfaction to note t'->at Mr Christie admits my. figures to be correct. lam quite content to leave the matter at that. Mr Christie's insinuations re site I can afford to treat with contempt, as all those who attended the meeting know that I took no active part in the discussion beyond suggesting what was eventually decided on. As to his insulting remarks, the public know me, and know the value of his insinuation of " sterile pessimism." They have yet to learn of Mr Christie's optimism, and if he will forego his claim to £3OO promoter's fees, £l5O architects' fees, and promise to take no share of the £l5O brokerage, he will prove himself an honest enthusiast, and one entitled to talk of pessimism in others. We none of us " associate rash speculation" with any of the gentlemen constituting the provisional directorate; but if there was only a little more of them —who we know—and a little less of Mr Christie—who we don't knowthen we might be expected, to have a little more confidence in what I believe to be a proposal —if upon a sound business basis —offering a sound investment.

Possibly Mr Christie will inform the public whether the Hay-ward-Fuller combination, which have their pictures established here, will step out and leave the way clear for " Independent" films. —I am, etc., M. C. LAWSON.
