The Waipa Post. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY FRIDAY, MAY 22, 1914. ALBERT PARK.

LAST night's meeting of delegates representing the various sporting clubs and kindred institutions, at which proposals for the permanent improvement of Albert Park were considered.bids fair to mark an important epoch in the history of sport and recreation in this district. It will do more than this: it vsll, when the proposals are given effect to, bring into use for its rightful purpose what assuredly must prove to be one of our most valuable endowments, and at the same time add considerably to the natural beauty and wealth of the town. Albert Park is a beautiful reserve of twenty acres, ideally located, and lending itself to that purpose which it is intended to serve. As it stands to-day thje park has only its natural advantages to recommend it, but no great strength of imagination is required to picture it as it should be—and will be, if the enthusiasm manifested at last night's meeting may be taken as evidence of the temper of town and district residents in this important proposal. A much more than usually, keen interest has been taken by the sporting clubs and other public institutions, which, through their appointed delegates at last evening's meeting, expressed a unanimous desire to assist in a practical manner in any reasonable proposal likely to. make Albert Park available for recreation purposes. Ways and means were considered, but it was natural that no decisive action could be taken other than approach the controlling local authority whose function it is to complete the business transactions arising out of the proposals. According to the Board it is to be respectfully asked to make possible the carrying out of a scheme for the permanent improvement of the domain. Over and above lending moral assistance to the movement the members of the sporting and other bodies have expressed a willingness to do a reasonable amount of work in beautifying the grounds and, when properly laid down, in maintaining them and keeping them attractive to the public, such action behalf of the clubs is certainly deserving of support and encouragement. The outside public, too, will be equally willing to assist in the bringing into use of the district park. It is therefore for the Domain Board to give the lead when we feel sure that concerted action by the clubs more directly interested, ably supported by the publiAin and about the immediate'districts, will very speedily result in the utilisation of Albert Park for its rightful purpose, and in the beautifying and permanent improvement in one of our most valuable endowments.
