PIRONGIA.
(Own Correspondent.)
The harvest festival service in connection with the Anglican Church, was held in St Saviour's on Sunday last. The Church had been tastefully decorated by the ladies of the Parish, assisted by the churchwardens, who, judging by the effect of the finished work, must have worked very hard.
The seating capacity of the church was taxed to its utmost — every seat being occupied, several persons being obliged to stand at the back. Special lessons and psalms were read and Harvest hymns sung. The vicar, the Rev. F. W. Clarke, delivered a very able and appropriate address, and while the offertory was being taken, Miss S. Arey rendered in a very finished style " Nearer My God, to Thee," her soprano voice being heard to great advantage in this beautiful solo.
On Monday night, February l6th, Mr Lawson motored out from Te Awamutu and disposed of the fruit, flowers, produce, etc., by auction. Everything was disposed of at very satisfactory prices, the substantial sum/'of £5 12s id being realised. Atjthe conclusion of the sale Mr G. Finn, on behalf of St. Saviour's vestry, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr Lawson for disposing of the produce for them, and spoke highly of his capabilities as an auctioneer. This carried by acclamation. \^ In reply Mr Lawson said what pleasure it always gave him t\ meet the people of Pirongia. Special mention should be made of the splendid order in which the lots had been arranged for sale, by Mr J. Russell.
