\ l An accidenbof afpainfulthough fortunately not of-aserious nature, occurred -last evening to Mr T. Spear, of the Cosmopolitan Hairdressing Saloon. lie was engaged in lighting the acetylene lamp at the entrance of the billiard room, when with a loud report, the lamp exploded. A piece ot the glass struck Mr Spear just above the right eye, inflicting a nasty cut. It seems that a faulty connection was responsible for a leakage, and the globe becoming full of the escaping gas, only awaited the insertion of a naked flame to explode. This it did immediately Mr Spear applied the light, and so loud was the report that it was heard throughout the business portion of the town. And this is the gas it was proposed to instal for the purpose of supplying an illuminant at Te Awamutu !
