FOR BREEDING BETTER BEEF.

During the ten months, January I to October 31 there have been QBO Shorthorns exported from Great Britain to South America, of which all but 44 have gone to the Argentine, according to the "Live Stock Annual" for 1914. With the exception of 1906, when 2352 were taken bv that country, the number this present year compares very favourably with that of any other. The great feature of the export trade has been the demand from South Africa. In 1909 only six Shorthorns went to Africa; in IQIO, 34; in 1911. 52; in 1912, 129; and in 1913 to October 31, 474. These figures speak for themselves. The following are other totals for this season : U.S.A., 80; Canada, 39 ; Germany, 24; Russia, 20. Australia, II; British East Africa, 10; New Zealand, 7.
