FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR E. I. MILLER.

The interment of the late Mr E. I. Miller took place at St. John's cemetery on Saturday last, the remains being followed to the grave by a large number of mourners. A short service was held at the deceased's late residence prior to the cortege leaving for the cemetery. Shortly after three o'clock the funeral procession left, the chief mourners, which included the relatives of the deceased, following close behind the hearse. Following these came members of the Te Awamutu Town Band, after which came a large number of mourners on foot, closely followed by several vehicles. The cortege passed along Alexandra Street, which was lined with silent spectators with uncovered heads. Out of respect to the memory of the late Mr Miller, the business houses closed their premises. Arriving at the Anglican Church, a service was conducted by the Revs. Clarke and Kayll. During the service the hymn, "Brief life is here our portion " was sung by special request, this being a favourite hymn of the late Mr Miller. At the conclusion of the service the body was conveyed to its last resting place in the adjoining cemetery, the organist playing the "Dead March in Saul" as the mourners filed out of the church. As the coffin was being lowered into the grave the last sad rites were read, and the hymn, " Abide with Me, fast falls the Eventide," was sung. During services the hymns were played by members of the band. Messrs C. Bowden, G. Gifford, M. S. Laurie, R. N. Stevenson, F. D. Wood and R. Dawson, members of the Te Awamutu Bowling, of which the late Mr Miller was a prominent member, acted as pall-bearers. A noticeable feature was the large number of beautiful floral tributes sent by the various local ,clubs and institutions, with which the deceased was connected, and also by friends in Te Awamutu and elsewhere. The casket in .which the body was incased was one of polished oak, with silver furnishings, and was made by Messrs Clark and McMillan, undertakers, who conducted the arrangements in connection with the funeral.
