TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the members of the above board was held in the board’s office, Market street, this morning. . Present —Messrs A. S. Wallace (chairman), S. Mathews, W. Taylor, J. B. Teasdale and Dr Reekie. Tenders. Tenders were received for the carting of water pipes from the Te Awamutu railway station and along the route of the proposed water supply. The tender ol: Messrs Andrew and Son, or 9 s per ton, was accepted. Owing to Mr Corcoran being obliged to throw up his contract for the carting of sand and shingle to the Pirongia reservoir, it was found necessary to invite fresh tenders. On the motion ol Dr Reekie it 1 was decided to accept the tender of Messrs Garvey Bros., the price being 12s'per yard for sand and 18s for shingle. SUBSCRIPTION LIST. On the motion of the chairman it was agreed that a subscription list lie opened to aid in the movement of giving a suitable welcome to those who have gone to Auckland, and assisted in keeping law and order. He stated it was incumbent upon every one to assist in recognising the valuable services that had been rendered by these men. UNIMPROVED RATING. Mr Teasdale _ presented a petition from a large number of ratepayers asking that the proposal to adopt the system of rating on unimproved value be submitted to a poll of the ratepayers. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment : Andrew and Son £2, licensing expenses £3 13513 d, G. M. A. Ahier £9 13s Bd, N.Z. Acetylene Gas Co. £54 19s, freight £4 7s, C. Ostburg £3O. CONDOLENCE. On the motion of Dr Reekie, it was unanimously resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs E. i. Miller.
