FOOTBALL.
The following team have been selected to represent the Waipa Rugby Union against the Hamilton representatives, to take place at Bockett’s paddock to-morrow — Sutherland, Matthews, Briscoe, Richardson (2), Black, Henderson Mark, Cunningham, Maunder, F. and A. McConkey, Thompson, W. Teddy, Clifford. Emergencies E. Clarke, Ness, D. Kav (backs): Anderson, Reynolds, and Moody (forwards). NOTES ON PLAYERS. . In view of the contest to take place at Bockett’s paddock tomorrow, the following notes on players should prove of interest: Sutherland — Full-back, quick, good kick and square tackle, very promising young player. Matthews— %, sound in defence and very dangerous in attack, splendid drop-kick and fine goal kicker, straight, strong runner.
Briscoe — Centre %, good defensive player and equal to any attacking movement.^ J. Richardson a young player possessing great dash, strong and vigorous. G. Richardson — Of the solid order, fast, silent, and sound in all departments. Black %, Fine heady player, who, given the chances, makes fine openings for his resourcefulness is his strongest point, swerves well.
Mark — V2 , a real jvarrior, un-
tiring and strenuous, good rushstopper, inclined at times to try to do too much, must remember to feed well his dashing backs on Saturday. Clifford Wing-forward, a versatile player. Hold his own with the best. Very dangerous in attack. Always helpful in defence.
Thompson —Good on line, and splendid in the open. Fine tackle and good kick. Teddy—A bustler, very keen and vigorous. Follows up well. Henderson —A grand forward. Plays from start to finish, and knows the game. McConkey Bros. (2)—Both good forwards, good in scrum, line work and in the open. Maunder —A fine forward of the solid type. Excellent placekick and good punt. Cunningham Good in line play, and shows good footwork in the open. Strong in line-out play.
A Rugby football match of more than usual interest will take place on Wednesday next between the two local hockey teams, when the exponent of the “stick” will be given an opportunity of trying their skill with the “ boot.”
